Licensing frequently asked questions

How do I get the key to activate the Student license?
You don't need any key. Posterior to version 3.2 the GEB IDE available for free download already works in Student mode.
Can I program any kind of hardware with the Student license?
No. Student license allows programming only the devices already ported in the GEB IDE: Windows (XP/VISTA/7/8/10), Raspberry PI B (Linux/Raspbian) and Arduino Mega2560 R3 (ATMega 2560). Student version is intended to learn PLC programming using IEC 61131-3 languages and try the GEB IDE features: translation to C, program simulation, on hardware debugging, etc. If you want to port new hardware you must buy a Professional license.
How do I get the key to activate the Professional license?
The key is sent to your email when you buy the license.
Can I program any hardware with the Professional license?
Yes. With the Professional License you can port any device based in any hardware platform and program them using the IDE. However, if you are a PLC Manufacturer and/or your intend to distribute/sell PLCs programmable with the GEB Automation IDE you must buy the OEM license.
What does "Works without Internet connection" mean?
With the Professional license an Internet connection is required in order to verify the license key. If the IDE cannot communicate with our license server it will only recognize the ported devices included with the Student version.
If I buy an OEM license, do my clients need a key to activate the IDE?
No, they don't need any key. The customized version of the IDE that you distribute to your clients will already have your key included.
Are there any per distributed PLC cost or runtime royalties?
No. With the OEM license you can distribute the IDE with as many PLCs as you want at no extra cost.
What does "Integrate GEBs code to your own IDE" mean?
Large PLC manufacturers and automation integrators may develop their own IDEs. By integrating GEBs IDE code (compiled or even source code) to their development they can easily add capabilities such as powerful graphic editing and simulating, IEC 61131-3 to C translating, high level on-hardware debugging, etc. at minimum cost.
How can I get support?
Complete technical guide and basic email support are available from our Support Center. Professional, OEM and Integrator licenses grant access to advanced assistance requested and provided through email or Skype for at least the amount of hours specified in the corresponding License Agreement. GEB may charge additional support at USD 50 per hour rate.
Do I get upgrades?
Professional, OEM and Integrator licenses grant the right to install all available upgrades to new releases of the IDE for a period of two (2) years. Additional right to install upgrades for two years fee is 20% of current license purchase price.
Is there an GEB Automation IDE version for Linux?
Yes, download geb_linux.tgz. The current Linux version 3.1.2 (64 bits) requires a Java 8 JRE/JDK (64 bits). Currently it only works with Professional Licenses. Keep in mind that you can also use the Windows version of the IDE to program Linux based PLCs (even if you want or need to execute the Linux compiler directly in the PLC).
